My weekly email is officially two years old! That is just absolutely bananas! In honor of it’s “birthday” she got a fresh new do! The vision for Family Ministry at Mechanic Grove is for EVERY Generation and much of my email is designed to serve all of our generations! Hopefully this little change in the email will be a great reminder to all of us that no one is exempt from Family Ministry. This is for every generation, every household and every heart!

Another great Wednesday Roots Night in the books last week! It is a joy to see the full tables as we share a meal together! Keep inviting friends! Remind your Sunday School class to join in! There’s discipleship opportunities for everyone! I’m grateful for the many gifted volunteers who help all the different pieces go smoothly. It has been especially neat to watch some of our young adults step up and serve in different Roots Night Volunteer Roles.

I enjoy the mornings I get to greet the families coming to participate in BOLD. These faces have become familiar over the last two years and it is fun to get to know the BOLD kids and their moms. With the Building Project, BOLD Kid check-in and Preschool drop-off happen at the same place. Double the fun! So many unique families and really awesome kiddos are rolling in our doors around 9 o’clock. If you’re ever short a few smiles, come greet these families at the door during that time!

I have a weird schedule over the next two weeks. I’ll be in and out of the office and working remotely some days. I’m looking forward to judging an FFA contest tomorrow morning and helping with another state FFA event on Saturday. I’m grateful that I can still plug in and give back to that organization. Next week Scott and I are getting away for a long weekend before Thanksgiving. We’re both looking forward to that time away together!

As a staff we’re gearing up for all the Thanksgiving and Advent things around here! As much as I don’t want to give in and admit that the winter season is upon us, I’m looking forward to all the ways we’ll be preparing our hearts together for our coming King!

What WE’RE Learning This WeekA nugget of what our Lil’, Youth and Adults Roots heard this week

Our Family Theme: Lessons From the Life of Rahab

Our Root Text: Joshua 2:1–21; Joshua 6:17, 22–25; Hebrews 11:30–31; and James 2:20–26

Verse of the Month: Joshua 1:9

How Every Generation Lives This Out: Talk about this as a household… If you were in Rahab’s place, would you have made the same choice?

What I’M Learning This WeekSharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

I added Psalm 24:6 to the header of my weekly emails. It reads “Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.” This verse comes from a Psalm that my study Bible says is about everything belonging to God. The psalmist goes on to talk about who will receive blessings from God; listing out those with clean hands, pure hearts, doesn’t trust in idols and doesn’t swear by false gods.

The posture of our hearts leads us to the “blessing from the Lord.” Let it be said of us that we’re a family of families, helping “every generation, every household, every heart” be seeking God’s face and be daily pursuing hearts right with Him!

Make Every Week Count: Parenting, Grandparenting & Spiritual Mentoring Resources

Something to Read: I love a good Advent Bible study and it’s time to get those ordered! This devotional, Advent for Exiles, is written by singer and songwriter Caroline Cobb.

Something to Listen to: This whole album is gold, but I really liked this song “Can’t Lose” by Jordan Feliz.

Something to FollowWorld Watch is an awesome tool to help kids grow in their “news literacy, biblical discernment and critical thinking.” Truthfully, it’s probably a great way for all of us to consume the news, either way, sign up to get a free month free here!
