Families are really special to us here at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren! They are special to us, because they are special to God! We know, just like what we see in the Bible, that every family looks different. We love that all of our very different, really special families make up one big family here at Mechanic Grove. We’re a lot of generations together with one common goal - to know Jesus and make Him known. As a church family, we are intentional to partner with families, empowering them to be and to raise Christ-following disciples who are “rooted and built up in Him,” bearing good fruit in their lives.

  • We do this with scripture as our starting point, or our “roots.”
    • “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • A strong, established tree has branches that stretch high and wide. We value reaching up, being a disciple of Jesus and reaching out, making disciples that follow after him.
    • “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20
  • Like trees in a grove or forest stand tall together, Family Ministry at Mechanic Grove is most effective as a “Whole Family, Whole Church” program. Ministry for all ages, done together.
    • “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
  • There are trees on our church property that have stood the test of time. Similarly, the Family Ministry program desires to honor Brethren practices and community traditions.
    • “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2
  • Our desire for every generation is the same as Paul did for the church in Colossians “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 'rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7
