Ruth was able to get her stitches out on Tuesday this week. Her foot is healing well, and she will be in the boot about two more weeks. She has been given permission to wear a shoe for short periods of time and to drive with a shoe. Since Tuesday, we have had two of Ruth’s aunts staying with us. Our daughters were down on Wednesday, so it has been a busy week at our house. I took some time yesterday to “chauffer” Ruth and her aunts around.
A soggy Memorial Day weekend has given way to a stretch of nice weather. Things are looking good for our picture on Sunday. DON”T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR RED AGAIN THIS SUNDAY!! We have also brought to a close the first twenty weeks of Believe. The series will resume in September with the final ten weeks.
Janae shared last Sunday about the Adult Sunday School electives for the summer. They will start next Sunday, June 7th at 9:30 am. As a reminder we are maintaining our normal worship schedule through the summer months. We will have Sunday School every Sunday except August 30th (a Fifth Sunday) which will be Southern End Celebration Sunday.
This Sunday we will have our Every Generation Sunday School so we will begin in the sanctuary at 9:30 am with worship before making our way outside for our picture. What a great opportunity to be together for this special moment as we seek to recreate a beloved picture from Pentecost Sunday 33 years ago.
On Wednesday this week, we had our last Adult Bible study until the fall. We dug a little deeper in God’s word on sharing our story. One of the principles we gleaned from the Scriptures was how often we are encouraged to allow our lives to be our witness. Lifestyle evangelism is just as important as friendship evangelism. Jesus said in the sermon on the mount, “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).
On Sunday we are beginning our “Great Stories in Genesis” series which we will be sharing over the summer months. We are starting in Genesis 1 with a message entitled, “The Creation.” I have prepared six of the sermons so far and am looking forward to sharing these messages over the coming weeks. In addition, on Sunday we will be showing our Graduates video in both services and honoring our graduates in the 10:30 am service.
As I was reflecting this week on the first twenty weeks of the Believe series, I was so glad we began the series and how engaging the series has been for so many of you. What we believe matters and what we practice as believers is oh so important. As John concluded his Gospel, he wrote in John 20:30-31: “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” That is a great summary of why we are doing the Believe series.
Ruth and I are with her aunts in Harrisburg today as Ruth’s cousin is coming in via train. After we pick him up, we will be at Tessa’s for dinner before returning home. I am eager though for all that God has for this Sunday. I got my red shirt ready to go and am looking forward to a very special Lord’s Day with you as the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. Have a great weekend and remember, it is Friday...but Sunday’s coming!
