FAM JAM 2025 is here as it kicks off tonight. So much planning from so many volunteers has gone into this event. God has done his part by providing three beautiful days for us to engage and learn from the sermon on the mount. Please continue to pray for this event and again thank you to the many who are volunteering and those of our church and community who will be blessed by FAM JAM 2025.

It was great to have Janae back after their amazing trip with the youth to Montana. You will hear more about that soon but be assured that their participation in this conference/event was amazing. My thanks to Janae for organizing and leading the group and for Hans Herr for chaperoning. I am so glad that our youth were blessed and encouraged by this event. Thanks to all who helped sponsor the trip through the fundraisers.

I was having a quiet week until Wednesday morning when I went into the hospital after learning that Ken Siegrist took ill the night before. Upon my arrival, I knew that Ken was not doing well. When Cynthia and Ken’s sisters finally arrived, the doctor met with us telling us that Ken had suffered a significant brain bleed that he would not recover from. Some difficult decisions had to be made as Ken remained on life support. Your prayers for Cynthia and Ken’s sisters are needed as Ken may have entered eternity by the time you read this. We will give an update on Sunday.

It is hard to believe that July is over, and August is before us, the last month of summer. We of course are kicking off August with FAM JAM but there are other events forthcoming. Chris Elliot will be with us on August 17th to share about the global mission work of the Church of the Brethren. Southern End Celebration Sunday will be the following week as we continue this great tradition with our outdoor service. On a personal note, Ruth and I will be on vacation August 16-23. We will also wrap up our preaching series on David with two messages on David during the month.

Next week there is a curriculum fair on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in room 14. If you are a Sunday School teacher or small group leader, this is a great way to learn about available resources. Whether you are a teacher or not, come and learn about the many small group discipleship resources that are available to our congregation.

I have been living in the Sermon on the Mount in my devotional time this week. Each day this week I read the sermon on the mount but each day in a different translation. In addition, I have continued my read through the bible in a year and started in the book of Isaiah this week. We have concluded our Wednesday evening Bible Study for the summer, and it will resume on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 pm in Room 14 as we begin a study on the book of I Peter.

I am going to wrap this up with so much happening this weekend. I am hoping that all of you are helping or participating in some way with FAM JAM. One of my favorite verses from the Sermon on the Mount comes in Matthew 5:14 where we read: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”  My prayer is that many will see our good works this weekend and glorify our Father. My prayer is that our witness would be strong through FAM JAM 2025.  And I trust we will faithfully fulfill our purpose as a church to be a united people fully following Jesus’ teaching through knowing, living, and sharing Christ’s love.

Looking forward to this weekend and worshiping with you in the tent. As a reminder, there is a hymn sing in the sanctuary at 9:00 am on Sunday followed by breakfast in the Family Life Center and then worship outside in the tent at 10:30 am. Come and be a part of an amazing weekend at Mechanic Grove as we celebrate our Savior at FAM JAM 2025!

It is Friday…but praise God Sunday’s coming!
