Hello and happy Monday! Another week for us to serve and love the Lord!

It was a busy weekend around here at home! I spent some time at a few 4-H Round-Up Shows, watching many of our talented showmen! I enjoyed the walk down memory lane and the opportunity to cheer on lots of MGCB church kiddos! Otherwise I enjoyed some time catching up on projects around the house and some work in the flower garden. The flowers at yesterday’s volunteer training came from my patch! I was happy to share!

Thanks to all who gave their afternoon to participate in the annual Roots Volunteer Training. This year our training had an emphasis on creating a culture of discipleship. The material was birthed out of a training I participated in earlier this year which uses this sermon by Alistair Begg (and part two) as its basis. It’s a great listen for anyone, Roots Kids volunteers or not!

The Senior High Youth Roots had a great Summer Campout (Retreat) weekend this past weekend! Thanks to Morgan Holzhauer and Jerry O’Donnell for chaperoning. The group enjoyed some fun time on the water, evening devotions on the boat, fellowship by the campfire and visiting a local church yesterday morning. They had some great takeaways! You’ll have to touch base with one of them in the coming weeks to hear about their experiences!

As I mentioned last week, Sunday, August 23rd is Back-to-School/Bible Handout Sunday! Roots Kids entering Kindergarten, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th grade will receive their new Bibles. Their parents will receive an accompanying resource to help them cultivate the spiritual growth of their children at home. The Bibles will be distributed during the 10:30 am worship service, but both services will take time to pray over the Roots Kids upcoming school year! Make note to be here if you have a Roots Kids participating or to be here to “pray them in!”

What I’M Learning This Week: Sharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

I’ve been recalling it for myself and praying it over others this week. May Psalm 16 embolden your heart, too.

“Keep me safe, my God,

for in you I take refuge.

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;

apart from you I have no good thing.”

I say of the holy people who are in the land,

“They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”

Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.

I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods

or take up their names on my lips.

 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;

you make my lot secure.

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;

even at night my heart instructs me.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord.

With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;

my body also will rest secure,

because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,

nor will you let your faithful one see decay.

You make known to me the path of life;

you will fill me with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
