But before we can jump into FAMJAM completely, Hans Herr and I loading up 10 really cool Sr. High Youth Roots and heading west for the 2025 MVMNT Conference! We’ve certainly hit some roadblocks in our travel logistics to get there, but it seems as though things are really starting to fall into place. Thanks to those who have been praying over that detail. This group will depart Thursday, July 24th for Kalispell, Montana. There we’ll hear from a series of awesome Bible teachers and preachers most of whose primary audience is teens. You can see the full line up here: https://mvmnt25.com/

On Sunday (7/20), we’ll dedicate the team that is travelling to this conference during our 9:30am worship service. Before the service though, we’ll host our final fundraiser for the trip - a church-wide continental breakfast. The breakfast will be by donation and be served from 8-9am in the Family Life Center.

Available during the breakfast fundraiser, will be the “mailboxes” for the MVMNT Conference attendees! Make time on Sunday to eat AND drop notes of encouragement for the attendees to read before sessions each day.

The next few weeks are full of some final preparations for these two big calendar items - MVMNT Conference and FAMJAM. I was so glad to be home this weekend, I spent a lot of time in the flower garden! Such joy to put together bouquets for people to grab and enjoy! Looking forward to some more of the same this week and upcoming weekend before we kick it full swing again!

What I’M Learning This Week: Sharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

Today on the FAMJAM reading plan, we’re reading Matthew 6:1-4. I’ll share with you a small section of one of the study resources I’ve been using as we’ve been preparing for a weekend in the Sermon on the Mount. This particular exert stuck out to me as it connected today’s reading with the life of David - a timely connection considering Pastor Kevin’s current sermon series.

“Jesus warns practicing righteousness in order ot be seen by others - sounding a trumpet when we give, praying on street corners to be seen by others, and so forth (Matthew 6:1-8). Jesus calls us instead to heart-rooted righteousness. He calls us to actions that may not be valued by others but that God sees and honors. We see this theme prominently in the narratives contrasting Saul and David in 1 Samuel. The people desire a tall and powerful king like Samuel even though he lacks character, but God knows the heart and chooses David. As God tells Samuel when he sends him to anoint David, “Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).”

Correct us towards heart-rooted righteousness, today, Lord.
