Happy Monday to you all! Trusting you all enjoyed a beautiful Mother’s Day yesterday! We enjoyed lunch outside with my parents and an ice cream stop with Scott’s parents yesterday. What a joy the beautiful spring weather was this weekend! I FINALLY got a chance to start the mulching endeavor at our house. It feels like it’s been weeks since I’ve had an uninterrupted day at home to do so. Thanks to my dad for his help to get things started!

I wasn’t around much last week as we celebrated the life of my grandfather. It was a bittersweet week for sure. I enjoyed celebrating all the mothers, of all kinds and forms, in our church family yesterday though! A special thanks to the ladies of the Tuesday morning Painting Group who helped assemble the mini-bouquets we gifted all the ladies!

This week we’ll gather on Wednesday evening for our Spring Congregational Business Meeting. You’ll find packets in the Gathering Area for your review. I know it’s a busy time of year, but I’ll encourage you to prioritize attending and sharing your voice with the church family!

The following Wednesday (5/21) is our last Roots Night for the school year. The meal will be hosted by the Jr. High Conference attendees and will serve as a fundraiser for their upcoming conference in June! I hope you’ll consider joining us and supporting the group. We’ll begin the meal at 5:30, like normal.

I tied up the final pieces of our group's report on the 2025 D6 Conference! I hope you’ll grab a copy in the Gathering Area, or read it HERE, and check out all the learning the team experienced. Based on speaker highlights and pressing items, you’ll find the next steps or initiatives for MGCB Family Ministry in the report. Will you be prayerful over the ways we’ll attack those items?

Enjoy the sunshine while we have it this week, friends!

What WE’RE Learning This Week: A nugget of what our Lil’, Youth and Adults Roots heard this week

Our Family Theme: Saving Grace

Our Root Text: Ephesians 2:1–22

Verse of the Month: Ephesians 6:11

How Every Generation Lives This Out: Talk through this question as a family… If you are saved by grace and not by your actions, why should you do good deeds?

What I’M Learning This Week: Sharing what I’m reading and listening to lately

Much of my Bible reading plan is in the Psalms currently. I’m enjoying reading about the ways that David and other authors used poetry and music as ways to draw themselves into worship and conversation with God. The Psalms that I read today were a combination of psalms of thanksgiving and remembrance, looking back on the journey of the Israelites since the beginning of God’s covenant with them.

Psalm 78 and 105 are two of the Psalms of remembrance that I referenced. Just like each generation of Israelites that came to be, we all need to be reminded of God's works from years and people who have gone before us. Psalm 78:5-8 says “He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.”

This is what one Bible teacher had to say about this Psalm… “the Israelites are expected to remember what God has done in the past and live in response to that in the present. Their lives are shaped by remembering and ours are too. We have to remember Christ’s finished work on the cross.” Thank you God, for giving us the Holy Spirit to prompt our hearts towards remembering and living life differently in light of Christ!
